First Week in Poughkeepsie

We've been here for a week (and a half). Kurt started work Monday and already had his first early start today, when he had to leave at 6:15am. Of course the girls woke up at 5:45 this morning :-/ We switched over from naps to quiet time two days ago, and the night before last had a wonderful night of sleep, 7 to 7, without any trouble at night time (they had been having a REALLY hard time getting to sleep, staying up as late as 9 talking, asking to go to the potty, etc - thus stopping naps).

Last week was a lot of fun with Kurt off work and no pesky boxes everywhere ;-) We went to an educational farm to hike, the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum, the Walkway Over the Hudson bridge, and a fun playground a couple times.

Our POD got delivered Friday. I had movers scheduled Saturday afternoon at 3. It got to be 3:15 and I texted checking in. He claimed he thought I had cancelled - that I messaged him on Facebook saying I was going to have friends help. I wish. The upshot, Kurt and I unloaded the POD by ourselves. Including the super heavy sofa sleeper. We were exhausted but happy. We've been working hard getting things unpacked and in place but it's a huge job. Crossing our fingers that Kurt's job after residency pays for movers to pack our stuff...

This week I took the kids to the Children's Museum again, and went grocery shopping with all three. Whew. I know why I took a part-time job before...being home with them all the time is exhausting. I think it might make the most sense for me to just stay home for these two years of Kurt's residency, but it sure is challenging sometimes...

Yay popsicles!

Walking at the educational farm. Turns out we went to the wrong section - we saw where the real trails were for next time

Beautiful and fun walking through the wildflowers...though we had to do three tick checks, everyone but Leif ended up with at least one tick on them

Cool playground - Spratt Park

On our way to Poughkeepsie - day 2 - WE'RE HERE!

We made it last night at a little before 5pm. Honestly the trip could not have gone much better. The kids worked with us, traffic was amazing, our snacks held out.

The backyard is HUGE. Did not realize it would be so big on our limited information of 12 photos online and a Skype tour with spotty reception interrupted by kids. It's like a dang park. We have to take care of it and might just get a push mower. We might be crazy? Also we need to figure out how to use it in winter. In the luxurious warm winter I'm looking forward to :)

We all love the rest of the house too. The broker was worried we'd think it was too small but it's plenty of room. The bedrooms are like the ones I grew up with on the near east side of Madison. It also seems to be roughly that age of house, maybe a little newer like 50s? I dunno really. But it has fun older house features which I love. And a half bath right off the living room which is helpful.

It is 2 stories which is new for the kids. Nice hardwood floors throughout but the stairs are carpeted, again a nice surprise.

The walls are painted nice different colors throughout so I don't think we need to change it up. I learned yesterday that the last people to live here are now the landlords - they decided to rent it out. So it doesn't feel like a rental.

No central air but there is a window ac in the basement they said we could use. Just have to figure it how we might use it. Maybe will have to get another one to two for all three bedrooms. Luckily this next week looks fairly mild so we shouldn't need to figure it out quite yet. It was pretty hot last night - I had to put cool cloths on the girls and fan them for them to get to sleep. It's only supposed to get to 84 today and less the rest of the week.

Today we go shopping for new beds for the girls. I think we'll just go to target. We may end up with bunk beds which would be fun.

Love to you all!
