Naps, Bedtime, and Playing Outside

This week I started working on the girls' naps. Sometimes it's difficult, especially when you've never taken care of other babies before, to remember that they are very different little people. What works with one sometimes works with the other, but sometimes you need to take completely opposite approaches.

I finally got it down (not that it will last long I know): Freya can't be swaddled and needs to stretch out. If she cries, something is wrong and I need to fix it. Signe needs to be swaddled (arms only) and often makes little "going to sleep" cries. If I mess with her it just wakes her up. And she takes her Nuk where usually she doesn't take a paci at all anymore.

But I don't care how hard it is - getting them both for a nap at the same time is glorious. And even if just one is sleeping, it's nice to spend time with the other. Often we'll sit on the front steps and watch the people and trees and big trucks. We have a pretty interesting location it turns out! The landlady (who lives upstairs) also maintains a little fish pond which is extremely interesting to the girls. Only trouble is I don't have a baby monitor so I'm always worried the other one is crying inside. But still fun for just a few minutes at a time!

Which leads to the next news of the week: I got to play with them outside once. We have a little back porch, maybe four feet square. I put down a blanket and brought out some toys and we got to experience nature here at home. It was very relaxing.

Finally: Kurt and I are feeling more like adult human beings by the week. We now have a pretty strict bedtime routine and bedtime of 7pm. We get them down and then we get to stay up (they wake up for a night feeding so I have to take that into account re: my sleep, but still). Sweet freedom! We can now have people over and not have to worry overmuch about the babies. Seriously, feels amazing.
